1. Balad

Balad is in the center of Irbid where the famous clock tower stands. Here, we can find the wet market where many people frequent to buy groceries at the cheapest prices, also, an alternative to carrefour. From beef to tomatoes, they have the basic ingredients you need in your everyday cooking. Other than the market, there are a few restaurants and other shops that sell clothes, mattresses, etc. It is where many male Singaporeans buy their farwa coat to stay warm especially during winter.

2. Irbid City Centre ICC

From entertainment, fashion, food to household appliances. EVERYTHING you need is in one mall. Irbid City Centre brings a shopping and entertainment experience for everyone. Usually we would take a 5 minutes taxi ride here which costs around 1-1.5JD, depending on the mood of the driver. It features international & local brands, including department stores, fashion, lifestyle, sports, electronics, home furnishing stores, and one of the largest hypermarkets in the country, carrefour.

On top of that, we have the cinema and a mini theme park in the mall.YES, you read it right, IN the mall.

Some of the well-known restaurants that we can find in this mall are Starbucks, Popeyes, KFC, and the obvious option, MCDONALDS. It’s interesting how the layout of these restaurants and the dining experience is in the mall. If I were to compare, it would be more like a Kopitiam and food republic kind of layout that you can find in Singapore. The whole stretch of the level will be filled with tables and the restaurants will be at one side for you to order.

3. Arabella Mall

Fun fact: Irbid was once called Arabella. Arabella mall is only a two minutes walk from ICC. Here is where we find the rare gems. There’s a chinese market in the mall where you can find…. MILO! SAMYANG! MOGU MOGU! And many more. Sadly, no Maggie yet, but alhamdulillah for what we have. In this mall they also sell abayas for as low as 10JD so i’ll just say one thing: save up and shop your heart out girls.

4. Ruang Iklan Irbid

AKA lifehack for asian students! In this online FB business happenings. We have many students from all over Asia selling goods such as chili padi, daun pandan, serai, etc. Some students even have their own business selling asian food here. So if you miss home cooked food, you’ll know what to do!

Other than that, they also sell preloved goods, as students graduate every year they will sell some stuff they cannot bring back with them and will be useful for students who are still in Irbid. Some of these goods include extension wires, fan, chairs, clothes, etc.

5. Irbid Mall

I would call this the Mustafa Centre of Irbid. Literally. Exact same layout of Mustafa. This is where most of us get our basic home appliances for good prices. My best buy was a full length standing mirror for only 10 JOD. My housemates and I also bought our dishware, pots and pans, iron board and towel rack and many more from this very mall.

There are many other useful things that you can find in this mall such as iron, blender, rice cooker and etc.

Writing this article in SG brought back a lot of memories of my time in Jordan which merely was 6 months. Can’t wait for my flight back next month and to spend the rest of my remaining time to the fullest. Also hoping this article inspires many of you to join the journey of Singaporean students in Jordan.
